Question 375032
{{{2x+y=5}}} Start with the second equation.

{{{2x+3x=5}}} Plug in {{{y=3x}}} (ie replace every 'y' with '3x')

{{{5x=5}}} Combine like terms on the left side.

{{{x=(5)/(5)}}} Divide both sides by {{{5}}} to isolate {{{x}}}.

{{{x=1}}} Reduce.

{{{y=3x}}} Go back to the first equation.

{{{y=3(1)}}} Plug in {{{x=1}}}

{{{y=3}}} Multiply

So the answers are {{{x=1}}} and {{{y=3}}} which form the ordered pair (1,3)

This means that the system is consistent and independent.
