log(x^2 + 9) - log(x + 3) = 2 + log(x - 3)
logarithmic rule: logb(m) - logb(n) = logb(m/n)
logarithmic rule: logb(m) + logb(n) = logb(mn)
2 = log 100
log((x^2 + 9)/(x + 3)) = log 100 + log(x - 3)
log((x^2 + 9)/(x + 3)) = log 100(x - 3)
log((x^2 + 9)/(x + 3)) = log 100(x - 3)
(x^2 + 9)/(x + 3) = 100(x - 3) (what is in parenthesis must equal)
x^2 + 9 = 100(x - 3)(x + 3)
x^2 + 9 = 100(x^2 - 9)
x^2 + 9 = 100x^2 - 900
-99x^2 = -909
99x^2 = 909
x^2 = 909/99 = 101/11
x = +- sqrt(101/11)
can not take log of a negative number, so x = -sqrt(101/11) does not work
so x = sqrt(101/11)
