Question 364141
my teacher wants me to write and algebraic equation for this question; find two consectutive integers whose sum is 75. she told me the equation is x+x+1 and the answer is 37, 38 but i dont know how you would get that equation.. she never explained it....

Hi

 x represents the 1st integer

(x+1) represents the 2nd integer. for consecutive integers the 2nd number is
      1 more than the 1st integer (example: if 1st integer is 5, the 2nd
      consecutive integer is (5+1) which is 6)

So getting the sum of the 2 consecutive integers is:

x [1st integer] + (x+1)[2nd integer]

x + (x+1)

So the equation is

x+x+1 = 75

2x = 75-1
2x = 74
 x = 37

x+1 = 37 +1 = 38

The 2 consecutive integers whose sum is 75 is 37 & 38 (37 + 38 = 75)
