Question 356548
A bar of metal contains 10% silver. Another bar contains 15% silver. How many kilograms of each must be taken to make a 10-kg bar containing 12% silver?
----------------------
Equation:
silver + silver = silver
0.10x + 0.14(10-x) = 0.12(10)
-----
Multiply thru by 100 to get:
10x + 14*10 - 14x = 12*10
-4x = -2*10
x = 5 kg (amt. of 10% bar needed in the mixture)
---
10-x = 5 kg (amt of 15% bar needed in the mixture)
