Question 355850
Hi, Sry, didn't see the minus
.
Let's first attempt to find a solution for the system
.
x = -2 ( this is a line perpendicular to the x-axis passing thru (-2,0))
.
y = 2x + 5
.
substituting x = -2
y = -4 + 5 = 1
.
(-2,1) a point on this line.
.
lines meet at(-2,1)and therefore the system has one solution (-2,1)
.
So we say that this point (-2,1) is CONSISTENT from one equation to the next.
System is consistent.
.
On the other hand, if there are NO points that work in both, then we
say that the equations are INCONSISTENT. NO numbers that work in one
are consistent with the other.

When a system is "dependent," it means that ALL points that work in
one of them ALSO work in the other one.
