Question 39982
An airplane flew for 6 hrs against a tail wind of 25km/hr. The return trip with the samewind took 5 hrs. Find the speed of the plane still in the air.

Downwind Data:
Time =5 hrs.; Rate=Plane speed(p) + 25km/hr.
Upwind Data:
Time=6 hrs.: Rate=Plane speed(p) - 25km/hr.
EQUATION:
Distance Downwind = Distance Upwind
5(p+25)=6(p-25)
5p+125=6p-150
p=275 km/hr
Plane speed in still air = 275km/hr.
