How to get rid of a negative exponent:

1.  Give the expression a coefficient of 1 if it doesn't 
    already have a coefficient
 
     1a<sup>-3</sup>

2. Write it over 1 if it's not already over something:

     1a<sup>-3</sup>

3.  Move the factor with the negative exponent from the 
    numerator to the denominator and change the sign of 
    the negative exponent to positive.

      1a<sup>3</sup>

4. Erase the 1 coefficient in the bottom

       1

      a<sup>3</sup>
