The probability of anything is the number of ways that it can happen that you would consider a success divided by the number of ways it can happen total -- successes and failures.

There is 1 way to get a head when you toss a coin out of two ways that it can happen. There is 1 way to get a 4 when you roll a die out of 6 ways that it can happen. The probability of independent events is the product of the probabilities, so 1/2 times 1/6
