Question 346132
We need to find the slope first.

Let m = slope

m = (4 -1)/(4 -(-7))

m = 3/(4 + 7)

m = 3/7

The slope is 3/4.

We now plug one of the points given and the slope into the point-slope formula and solve for y. We need to write your equation in the form y = mx + b (the slope-intercept form). We also call this equation the y-intercept form.

I will use the point (4,4) but you can use the other point if you'd like.

y - y1 = m(x - x1)....This is the point-slope formula. Memorize it for you will see it a lot in math courses including calculus.

y - 4 = (3/4)(x - 4)

y - 4 = (3/4)(x) - 3

y = (3/4)(x) - 3 + 4

y = (3/4)(x) + 1

The slope is 3/4 and the y-intercept is 1.
