Question 338738
One number is four time larger than another number with a sum total of 5285. What are the two numbers?
----------------------------
n = the n smaller number
5n = the larger number (4 times larger is 5 times as large)
n + 5n = 5285
6n = 5285
n = 5285/6  the smaller number
5n = 26425/6 the larger number
--------------
The author of the problem probably meant 4 times as large, but didn't present it correctly.
4 times larger is 400% more, = 5 times as large, like it or not.
If not, then what would 1 time larger, or 100% more, be? The same? If it's the same, then why does it say larger?
