Question 338656
I'll do the first one to get you started. Please only post one problem at a time.

{{{3*abs(x-5)=12}}} Start with the given equation

{{{abs(x-5)=4}}} Divide both sides by 3

Break up the absolute value (remember, if you have {{{abs(x)=a}}}, then {{{x=-a}}} or {{{x=a}}})

{{{x-5=-4}}} or {{{x-5=4}}} Set the expression {{{x-5}}} equal to the original value 4 and it's opposite -4

Now lets focus on the first equation  {{{x-5=-4}}}

{{{x=-4+5}}}Add 5 to both sides

{{{x=1}}} Combine like terms on the right side

<hr>

Now lets focus on the second equation {{{x-5=4}}}

{{{x=4+5}}}Add 5 to both sides

{{{x=9}}} Combine like terms on the right side

So the solutions to {{{3*abs(x-5)=12}}} are:

{{{x=1}}} or {{{x=9}}}
