Before attacking any absolute value equation, be sure that the absolute value is the only thing on the left side of the equation.  So the first thing you need to do is add 2x to both sides leaving you with:
{{{abs(3x+5)=5x+4}}}
Then remove the bars and set up two equations, one the same and the second one made entirely negative on the right side of the equation:
{{{3x+5=5x+4}}} and {{{3x+5=-(5x+4)}}}
Then solve each equation separately, and you get
{{{x=-9/8}}} and {{{x=1/2}}}
