Question 337152
<font face="Garamond" size="+2">

*[tex \LARGE \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ (x^2\ +\ 7x\ -\ 8)\ -\ x\ =\ x\ -\ 1]

Add *[tex \Large -(x\ -\ 1)] to both sides and collect like terms:

*[tex \LARGE \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ x^2\ +\ 5x\ -\ 7\ =\ 0]

Does not factor, so use the quadratic formula. Discriminant, *[tex \Large 5^2\ -\ (4)(1)(-7)\ =\ 53\ >\ 0], hence two distinct real roots.

*[tex \LARGE e^{i\pi} + 1 = 0]
My calculator said it, I believe it, that settles it
