Question 336821
{{{abs(p-3)-2=5}}} Start with the given equation

{{{abs(p-3)=7}}} Add 2 to both sides.

Break up the absolute value (remember, if you have {{{abs(x)=a}}}, then {{{x=-a}}} or {{{x=a}}})

{{{p-3=-7}}} or {{{p-3=7}}} Set the expression {{{p-3}}} equal to the original value 7 and it's opposite -7

Now lets focus on the first equation  {{{p-3=-7}}}

{{{p=-7+3}}}Add 3 to both sides

{{{p=-4}}} Combine like terms on the right side

<hr>

Now lets focus on the second equation {{{p-3=7}}}

{{{p=7+3}}}Add 3 to both sides

{{{p=10}}} Combine like terms on the right side

So the solutions to {{{abs(p-3)-2=5}}} are:

{{{p=-4}}} and {{{p=10}}}
