Question 334965
<font face="Garamond" size="+2">

If the planes were 2700 miles apart after 3 hours, then they were 900 miles apart after 1 hour which means their speed relative to each other is 900 miles per hour. One-third of 900 is 300 and two-thirds is 600, so the slow plane must be going 300 miles per hour and the fast plane 600 miles per hour.

Check, after 3 hours the slow plane will have traveled 900 miles, and the fast plane will have traveled 1800 miles and 900 plus 1800 equals 2700 -- answer checks.
