Meters per second, *[tex \Large \text{\frac{m}{sec}], is a measure of velocity.  Meters per second squared, *[tex \Large \text{\frac{m}{sec^2}], is a measure of acceleration.  Acceleration is the rate of change of velocity, so if you have function that represents velocity as a function of time, the first derivative of that function is the acceleration.
