You are on the right track.
Make a table with 2 columns and several rows (for a line you only need three rows)
Label the top row - X in one column, y in the other
Then pick a value for x and write it in the first empty row.
Use that value of x in the givne equation and solve for y.
Enter that value for y in the other open cell in the same row.
Do this for several values of x -- findint the cooresponding valeu for y.

Then draw a cartesian plane. Label x and y axis on the plane
Now plot the points from the table (x,y) 
Then draw in the curve that fits that set of plotted points.

Again, if the eqaution is linear, your only need two points.
