If *[tex \Large x] is one of your integers, and *[tex \Large x\ +\ 1] is the next consecutive integer, as in one more than *[tex \Large x], and you have determined that *[tex \Large x] is 44, the other number has to be one more than 44.  Another way to look at it is that if 44 plus some other number equals 89, then 89 minus 44 has to be equal to the 'some other number'
