Question 327059
For each of the relationships below, explain whether you think it is best described by a linear function or a non-linear function. Explain your reasoning thoroughly.
-----
Rule to follow:
If you get a constant change in one of the variables for each change
of "1" in the other, the relation is linear.
If you don't get a constant change, the relation is non-linear.
-------------------------
a. The time it takes you to get to work as a function the speed at which you drive
? Does each 1 mile change in speed result in a constant change in the time
required to get to work? Yes
Then the relation is linear.

b. The probability of getting into a car accident as a function of the speed at which you drive
? Does each each 1 mile change in speed result in a constant change in the
probability of your having a accident? No
Then the relation is non-linear.

c. A person's height as a function of the person's age (from age 0 to 100)
I'll leave that to you.
