Question 37733
Divide:
(5 1/2)/(4 3/4)
Your first step was a step in the right direction, but your answer was not!
Change the mixed numbers to their impoper-fractional eqivalents:
N.B. The X means multiply.
5 1/2 = (5X2+1)/2 = 11/2
4 3/4 = (4X4+3)/4 = 19/4

Now you can divide:

{{{(11/2)/(19/4)}}}...and the rule is..."Copy-Flip-Flip" which means...Copy the first fraction, flip the sign from division to multiplication, and Flip (invert) the second fraction.
{{{(11/2)*(4/19)}}} Multiply and simplify.
{{{44/38}}} Divide top and bottom by 2.
{{{22/19}}}
