Divide both sides by 3

                              log&lt;sub&gt;2&lt;/sub&gt;(5x) = 4

Use the fact that equation

    log&lt;sub&gt;B&lt;/sub&gt;A = C 

is equivalent to the equation 

       A = B&lt;sup&gt;C&lt;/sup&gt;

                                   5x = 2&lt;sup&gt;4&lt;/sup&gt;

                                   5x = 2·2·2·2

                                   5x = 16

                                    x = 16/5
