Question 309863
Please help me I am stuck here trying to figure out some algebra the question is a rectangle has a length of 4x and a width of 4x-2. Its perimeter is 12 inchs. find the length and width

If length = L, and width = W, then = 2L  + 2W = Perimeter, or, 2L + 2W = 12

Since length = 4x, and width = 4x - 2, then we'll have:

2(4x) + 2(4x - 2) = 12

8x + 8x - 4 = 12

16x = 16

x = {{{16/16}}} = 1

Length is therefore 4(1) or {{{highlight_green(4)}}}, and width = 4(1) - 2, or {{{highlight_green(2)}}}
