Question 35809
Mark reads at an average rate of 30 pages per hour, while Mindy reads at an average rate of 40 pages per hour. If Mark starts reading a novel at 4:30PM, and Mindy begins reading the same novel at 5:20PM, at what time will they be reading the same page?

Mark Data:
  rate = 30 pages/hr.   time reading = x hrs.
Mindi Data:
  rate = 40 pages/hr.   time reading = (x-4/3)hrs
EQUATION:
  rate(time) = rate(time)
 30x pages = 40(x-4/3) pages
 30x = 40x-160/3
-10x = - 160/3
   x= 16/3 = 5 hr. and 20 minutes
Reading same page = 4:30 + 5:20 = 9:50PM
