Question 297533
Let's do it the long way first. We need to convert the hours to minutes. 3hr= 180 minutes. 180+30= equals 210 minutes. So now we can rewrite it as : The car travels 196 miles in 210 minutes.

Distance/Time= Velocity

196/210= 0.93 miles/min.

Now we multiply 0.93 x 60 because there are 60 minutes in a hour. That will tell us how many miles per hour the car is traveling. So 0.93333333x60= 56.0 mph

Now let's do it the short and easier way: we still use the same equation: Distance/Time= Velocity.

Only this time we will simply convert the 3 hours and 30 minutes into hours which is easy enough. 3 hours and 30 minutes= 3.5 hours obviously.

So now:
Distance(196)/Time(3.5)= 56 miles/hr.

The long way is a headache but will give you good practice at converting numbers for equations which you will have to do ALOT as you move on in mathematics education.

Hope this helps!
