Question 297260
a 37 inch square tv is on sale at the local electronics store. if 37 inches is the measure of the diagonal of the screen, use the pythagorean theorum to find the length of the side of the screen

tv is square so all 4 sides equal so in Pythagorean Theorem:

a^2 + b^2 = c^2 --> 2a^2 = c^2, c is the diagonal (or hypotenuse)
2a^2 = (37)^2
a^2 = (37)^2 / 2
a = 37/sqrt(2) = (37sqrt(2))/2
a = approx. 26.16 inches
