for an equatio to be linear you must be able to rewrite the equation as y=mx+b where m is the slope x is alway x and b is the point at which the line crosses the y axis.

To graph the equations you will start at point b which is (0,b) and then use the slope or m. change m into a fraction. The top number of the fraction you would go up or down that many poits depending on weather it is negative or positive and the botom number you would go over that many also depending on weather the number is negative or positive. positive numbers go up and right. negative numbers go down and left.
