 .. yes and no ...  consider the following equation

(x-3)(x-3) = 0

which expands to give the quadratic equation x^2 -6x+9=0

In this case, there is only one answer, ie x=3.

Some purists however, argue that all quadratic equations have two solutions, and indeed so does this example, it's just that BOTH solutions are x=3.
