Question 275471
The first of two numbers is one more than twice the second. The sum of twice the first number and three times the second number is 51. Find the numbers.

Let the second number be x

twice the second = 2x

1 more means 2x+1 This is the second number

twice the first number =2x

three times the second will be 3*(2x+1)

2x+3*(2x+1) = 51

2x+6x+3=51

8x=51-3

8x=48

x=6  first number

2* x= 2*6 = 12 the second number
