Question 272192
I was wondering you could please assist me with how to solve the following problem:

Bob just bought a new pedometer & wants to attempt walking a total of 130,000 steps in a 10-day period. Once he starts using it, he realizes that he is out of shape & will need to acclimate slowly to achieve this goal. He decides to start at 4000 steps on the first day & increase by a fixed number of steps each day, over the next 9 days. What is the number of steps that he must increase by each day, in order to achieve the goal of 130,000 total steps in a 10-day period?

He starts with 4000 steps on the first day

He walks for 10 days to complete 130,000 steps

4000 + 4000+x +4000+2x+4000+3x..............   4000+9x  = 130000

4000*10 days + x+2x+3x+4x+5x+6x+7x+8x+9x= 130000

40000 +45x=130,000
45x=130000-40000

45x=90,000
x= 90000 /45

x=2000 steps

He has to increase 2000 steps everyday starting with 4000 steps on day one.

let the number of steps he has to increase daily be x
