Question 267679
***Algebra Rule whatever you do to one side has to be done to the other***

First of all you need to get the 6p on the left by itself. To do this you have to subtract 2 1/2 from each side. Your equation will look like this.
6p + 2 1/2 - 2 1/2 = 14 1/2 - 2 1/2
6p                = 12
6p = 12 Now you need to see what 1p equals to by dividing each side by 6.

6p =      12         1p = 2
__        __   =
 6         6

The 6 should be under each side in a division problem. But I couldnt get the typing in line.

Now you can see the 1p or in others words p = 2
