Question 269235
Write inequality, solve problem, check solution.
three times the sum of a number and seven is greater than five times the number minus 13
3(x)+7>5(x)-13 (is this right) How do I solve?

Not quite right :)

3(x+7) > 5x - 13

Expanding we have:

3x + 21 > 5x - 13

Substract 3x from both sides:

3x - 3x + 21 > 5x - 3x - 13

21 > 2x - 13

Add 13 to both sides:

21 + 13 > 2x - 13 + 13

34 > 2x

Divide both sides by 2:

34/2 > x

x < 17
