<pre><font size = 4 color = "indigo"><b>

The numbers in a ratio can always be multiplied or divided by any
positive number and the ratio is the same. Divide each part of the
ratio 2:3:4 by the sum of the numbers 2+3+4=9. Then we have the same
ratio

{{{2/9}}}:{{{3/9}}}:{{{4/9}}}

reduce the {{{3/9}}} to {{{1/3}}}

{{{2/9}}}:{{{1/3}}}:{{{4/9}}}

Now multiply each number by 45:

{{{45(2/9)}}}:{{{45(1/3)}}}:{{{45(4/9)}}}

{{{10:15:20}}}

So one child receives 10 cookies, one child receives 15 cookies,
and one child receives 20 cookies.

So the greatest of these is 20 cookies.
