Question 33130
First try to form equation with the informations given in the question.

 let A be Annilee's present age and J be Jessie's present age.
so  eq 1.   A = 2/3 (J) (PRESENT AGE)

   eq 2. In 8 yrs ,sum of the 2 girls ages = 61,that is written as
        (A +8) + (J + 8) = 61.(AFTER 8 YEARS)
SIMPLIFYING this we get,

          A + J + 16 =61
           A + J = 61-16
     this is the NEW  eq 2.         A + J = 45

SUSTITUTE THE VALUE OF A as "2/3 (J)" in NEW eq 2 (from eq1).

therefore the NEW eq 2. becomes,

(2/3)*J  + J =45

      (2J +3J )/3  =  45
          5J  = 45 *3

          THEREFORE J = 135/5
                      = 27 .
if J = 27,   A = 2/3(27)( from eq.1)

             = 18.
Jessie's age is 27 years and Annilee's age is 18 years..
