Question 265866
A box that has the shape of a cube and measures 10 cm on a side is cut open to form the flattened figure shown here:
(The figure shows 6 flattened boxes, and 1 side of 1 single box is labeled "10 cm"

What is the surface area of a box?
The answer is 600 cm2, but I don't understand how
I guess because it requires multiplying 10 X 60, yet I do not understand how this problem works

_______________________
ok its best to look at it as 6 equal sized squares
A cube has all the same measurments in this case all the Lengths and Widths are the same measurment of 10cm.
So the Area of a square is Length times Width
A=LW A=10(10) A=100
Surface area of the cube is equal to adding up all the areas of all 6 squares
[100]+[100]+[100]+[100]+[100]+[100]  or 6A, if A=100 then 6(100)=600
