Question 261427
You want to build a basketball court in your yard(rectangle). You have an area of 4,700Square feet that you want to use for the court.(Court will be fenced in.)
For a given area a square has the minimum perimeter.
-----
a)Write an equation for the perimeter in terms of the length.
If the dimensions of the square are x by x.
x^2 = 4700 sq. ft.
Perimeter = 4x ft
-------------------------
x = sqrt(4700) = 10sqrt(47) ft.
4x = 40sqrt(47)ft = 274.23 ft
-------------------------------------------
