Question 258810
A photographer is mixing 5% acetic acid solution with a 10% acetic acid solution to get 2 liters of a 7% solution. How many liters of each solution should he add?

5% solution X, 10% solution Y
X+Y=2  --> X=2-Y
0.07*2 liters = 0.14 liters acetic acid

0.05(2-Y) + 0.10Y = 0.14
0.10 - 0.05Y + 0.10Y = 0.14
0.10 + 0.05Y = 0.14
0.05Y = 0.04
Y=0.04/0.05=4/5=0.8 liters of 10% ascetic acid solution
and since X+Y=2

we will need 1.2 liters of the 5% and 0.8 liters of the 10%
