Question 255569
I need to find the total cost.
A meal is $32 with 5% sales tax and 20% tip.

A meal is $32. So now you have to take 5% of that meal, which means you convert 5 percent to a decimal. To change 5.0% to a decimal, you move the decimal two places to the left. So 5.0% becomes: .05 as a decimal.

Now let's multiply:

{{{32 * .05 = 1.60}}} Therefore, the tax on the meal was $1.60.

Now let's figure a 20% tip. You have to take 20% of the meal, which again means you have to convert a percentage (in this case 20%) to a decimal. To change 20.0% to a decimal, you move the decimal two places to the left. So, 20.0% becomes: .20 as a decimal.

Now let's multiply again:

{{{32 * .20 = 6.40}}} Therefore, the tip for the meal was $6.40

Now we just add all this up:

$32.00 (cost of meal)
     1.60 (5% tax)
     6.40 (20% tip)
