Question 32049
y=x^2-4x-5
Factoring: (x-5)(x+1)=0
 x=5 or x=-1
Completing the square:
 x^2-4x-5=0
 (x^2-4x   )=5
 (x^2-4x+4)=5+4
 (x-2)^2=9
Take the square root of both sides to get;
x-2=3 or x-2=-3
x=5 or x=-1
Quadratic Formula:
x^2-4x-5=0
a=1, b=-4, c=-5
x=[-b+-sqrt(b^2-4ac)]/2a
x=[4+-sqrt(16+20)]/2
x=[4+-sqrt(36)]/2
x=[4+-6]/2
x=(10/2)=5 or x=(4-6)/2=-1
Change of Form:
y=x^2-4x-5
y+5=x^2-4x
Complete the square to get:
x^2-4x+4=y+9
(x-2)^2=y+9
y=(x-2)^2-9
Axis of symmetry is x=2
For square rt type sqrt
For square use ^2
