Question 251134

 A plane can travel 300 mph with wind and 230 mph against wind. What is speed of the wind and speed of the plane in still air?
<pre>
The speed of the plane is the average of the speeds with
the wind and against the wind:

{{{(300+230)/2 = 530/2=265mph}}}

The speed of the wind can be gotten either of two ways.

1. By subtracting the speed of the plane in still air
from the speed of the plane with the wind:

{{{300-265=35mph}}}

or

2. By sutracting the speed of the plane against the wind
from the speed of the plane in still air:

{{{265-230=35mph}}}
