Question 251032
use two unit multipliers to convert 6200 centimeters to kilometers

A unit multiplier is a fraction with the same quantity
in the top as in the bottom but measured in different
units.

Start by making your original problem
into a fraction by putting 6200cm over 1:

{{{(6200cm)/1}}}

To use two unit multipliers you will need to go this route:

centimeters to meters to kilometers.

The first part of the route is to go from cm to m.

There are 100cm in 1m, so make a fraction. Since cm
is on the top of the first fraction, your first unit
multiplier will have cm on the bottom so it will
cancel away the cm on the top. So use the unit
fraction with the 100cm on the bottom and 1m on the
top, namely this {{{(1m)/(100cm)}}}

So far you have:

{{{(6200cm)/1}}}{{{"×"}}}{{{(1m)/(100cm)}}}

And the cm will cancel:

{{{(6200cross(cm))/1}}}{{{"×"}}}{{{(1m)/(100cross(cm))}}}

The second part of the route is to go from m to km.

There are 1000m in 1km, so make a fraction. Since m
is on the top of the second fraction, your second unit
multiplier will have m on the bottom so it will
cancel away the m on the top of the first unit
multiplier. So use the unit fraction with the 1000m
on the bottom and 1km on the
top, namely this {{{(1km)/(1000m)}}}

So far now you have:

{{{(6200cross(cm))/1}}}{{{"×"}}}{{{(1m)/(100cross(cm))}}}{{{"×"}}}{{{(1km)/(1000m)}}}

And now the m's will cancel:

{{{(6200cross(cm))/1}}}{{{"×"}}}{{{(1cross(m))/(100cross(cm))}}}{{{"×"}}}{{{(1km)/(1000cross(m))}}}

So multiply what's left across the tops you have

6200x1x1km which is 6200km

and multiplying across the bottom you have 1x100x1000 which is 100000

so you have

{{{(6200km)/100000}}} = .062km.
