Question 248577
What is the difference between z scores and area scores? What is each scores relationship to the graph of the standard normal distribution and what are the possible sign values for each score?
--------------------
The z-score of a data value is the distance measured in
standard deviations that data value is from the mean.
The z-value is negative if the distance is to the left
of the mean. The z-value is positive if the distance
is to the right of the mean.
--------------------
An area score is the percent of a population that
falls between a lower z-value and a higher z-value.
It is a measure of the normalized area above the z-
interval and below a normal curve. Area scores are
always positive.
