Question 245842
LeAnn,

(2w-4) and (2w+1) are actually the factors of the original expession 4*w^2 - 6w - 4.

It takes some practice to be able to see how to factor a quadratic like this. Sometimes you will need to do some trial and error. For example you could have started with:

(4w+a)*(w+b)

but when multiplying back out you would have been unable to produce -6w for the middle term with any values for a and b with these coefficients on w.

Note also that the coefficent on the middle term (-6w) is negative so you know that a and b must have opposite signs.

Does this help?
