You can ALWAYS leave off a coefficient of 1.  Just remember that a 1 coefficient is always understood to be there whether you see it or not.  


*[tex \LARGE -x] has a *[tex \LARGE -1] coefficient.  Which is to say that *[tex \LARGE -x\ =\ (-1)x] for any number *[tex \LARGE x].
