Re-writing your equation as a function of *[tex \Large x] is the same thing as solving the equation for *[tex \Large y] in terms of *[tex \Large x].  Do whatever you have to do to get *[tex \Large y] by itself on one side of the equals sign (traditionally on the left, but it really doesn't matter because you can always just flip it around when you are done) and every thing else on the other side.
