Question 235024
<font face="Garamond" size="+2">

You were right on track up to the point where you said:

*[tex \LARGE \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ 34\ =\ 2(x\ -\ 4)\ +\ 2(8)]

But then you said:

*[tex \LARGE \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ 34\ =\ 2x\ -\ 2\ +\ 16]

when you should have written:

*[tex \LARGE \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ 34\ =\ 2x\ -\ 8\ +\ 16]

because 2 times x is 2x and 2 times -4 is -8.

Simplify:

*[tex \LARGE \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ 34\ =\ 2x\ +\ 8]

Now all you need to do is add -8 to both sides and divide by 2.
