Question 230283
The measure of the supplement of an angle is 60 more than twice the measure of an angle. Find the measure of the larger angle.

Step 1. Supplementary angles means two angles add up to 180 degrees.

Step 2. Let x be the angle.

Step 3. Let 2x be twice the angle

Step 4. Let 180-x be the supplementary angle.

Step 5. Then 180-x=2x+60 since the supplement of an angle is 60 more than twice the measure of an angle.

Step 6. Solving 180-x=2x+60 yields the following steps

Add x to both sides of the equation

{{{180-x+x=2x+60+x}}}

{{{180=3x+60}}}

Subtract 60 from both sides of the equation

{{{180-60=3x+60-60}}}

{{{120=3x}}}

Divide by 3 to both sides of the equation

{{{120/3=3x/3}}}

{{{x=40}}} and {{{180-x=140}}}

Check equation {{{180-x=2x+60}}} if true...140=2*40+60=140 which is a true statement.

Step 7. The larger angle is 140 degrees.

I hope the above steps were helpful.
