Question 230076
{{{z/5=6}}}

Here you started with z, and you divided by 5. In order to find z, you have to "undo" the division by 5. The opposite of dividing by 5 is to MULTIPLY BY 5. So, multiply both sides by 5.

{{{5*(z/5)=5*6}}}

{{{z=30}}}

Check the answer by plugging in the 30 in place of the z:
{{{z/5=6}}}
{{{30/5=6}}}  YES!  It checks!!

This is an example of EQUATION SOLVING, using what I call the Principle of Opposites. For additional explanation on this topic that I think you may find helpful, see my own website. Do a "Bing" or "Google" search for my last name "Rapalje". Near the top of the search list, you will find "Rapalje Homepage." Then, near the top of my Homepage, you will find a link "Basic, Intermediate and College Algebra: One Step at a Time." Click on this link, and look for "Basic Algebra". Then choose "Chapter 1", and look for "Section 1.08 Equation Solving." My own students used to tell me that my sections are a LOT easier to understand than the traditional books. Try it for yourself and see. It's all free.
