Question 229245
The difference between 2 positive integers is 36. One integer is three times as great as the other. Find the integers.

Step 1. Let n be one positive integer.

Step 2. Let 3n be the other integer since the other is three times as great as the other.

Step 3. Then, 3n-n=36 since the difference of the integers is 36.

Step 4. Solving yields the following steps

{{{2n=36}}}

Divide by 2 to both sides of the equation

{{{2n/2=36/2}}}

{{{n=18}}} and {{{3n=54}}}. Note their difference is 36.

Step 5. ANSWER: The positive integers are 18 and 54.

I hope the above steps were helpful.
