Question 227706
The sum of two consecutive integers is 37. Find the number.

Step 1. Let {{{n}}} be the first integer.

Step 2. Let {{{n+1}}} be the next consecutive integer

Step 3. Then {{{n+n+1=37}}} since the their sum is 37.

Step 4. Solving the equation in Step 3 yields the following steps

{{{2n+1=37}}}

Subtract 1 from both sides of the equation

{{{2n+1-1=37-1}}}

{{{2n=36}}}

Divide by 2 to both sides of the equation

{{{2n/2=36/2}}}

{{{n=18}}} and {{{n+1=19}}} and note their sum is 37 as a check.

Step 5. ANSWER: The two consecutive integers are 18 and 19.

I hope the above steps were helpful.
