If the ratio of the edge of two cubes is 2:3. What is the ratio of the volumes?


Step 1.  Let 2x be the side or edge of  cube one where x is a number.


Step 2.  Let 3x be the side or edge of cube two since the ratio of the edge of two cubes is 2:3.


Step 3.  Volume V1 of a cube one be given as {{{V1=(2x)^3=8x^3}}}


Step 4.  Volume V2 of a cube two be given as {{{V2=(3x)^3=27x^3}}}


Step 5. The ratio of {{{V1/V2=8x^3/27x^3=8/27}}}


Step 6. ANSWER:  The ratio of volumes for these two cubes is 8:27.
